Cuba Hangouts: Richard Blanco
Join Richard Blanco, U.S. Presidential Inaugural Poet and Author, as he answers your questions, talks about being the first Latino and openly gay person to hold the position of inaugural poet, and the role of poetry in today's political world. Richard Blanco was born in Madrid, Spain, on February 15, 1968. His parents left Cuba after the rise of Fidel Castro to power and traveled to Spain before moving to New York City when Blanco was an infant. They eventually settled in Miami, Florida, as part of the area's large Cuban community of the 1970s. As Blanco has put it, "I was made in Cuba, assembled in Spain and imported to the United States," and explorations of culture would be a major component of his work. Cuba Hangouts runs monthly on the first Friday of every month @ 3:05 p.m. And is best enjoyed with a cafecito. This program is created in partnership by CubaOne Foundation and Cuba Educational Travel. Learn more at http://cubaone.org/ or https://www.cubaeducationaltravel.com/ #CubaHangouts
